Delve into the rich and evocative world of Japanese literature, art and poetry with Masayo, who brings a deep passion and knowledge of Japan’s literary heritage. Despite the tragic loss of countless works in Hiroshima during the atomic bombing, Masayo preserves books that are over a century old, written in traditional kanji that few can read today, offering a rare connection to Japan’s past.
In this immersive experience, guests are invited to create their own artwork or sculpture inspired by Japanese aesthetics, and then craft a haiku or poem to accompany it — naming their creation in the Japanese tradition. Alongside hands-on practice, participants learn about the cultural significance of literature and poetry in Japan, the history of kanji, and how these art forms continue to inspire and connect people across generations.
This experience encourages creativity, reflection, and personal expression. Guests are invited to take home their creations, along with the skills and inspiration to continue creating at home, leaving with both a tangible keepsake and a lasting connection to Japanese artistic traditions.
